As we age, one of the most evident changes in our face is the descent of our eyebrows. As a norm, the female eyebrows have an arch shape and are located slightly above of the bony rim above the eye. In males, the eyebrow is normally flat and sits at the level of the bony rim.
In many patients, the eyebrows drop overlapping the eyelids, or increase the amount of tissue in the patient’s upper eyelid. Many patients think that they need eyelid surgery, but actually their problem is in their eyebrow position, which must be suspended back to a superior position. Performing eyelid surgery in a patient with an eyebrow that is not in proper position can actually worsen the condition. If the patient has skin excess in the upper eyelid and also droopy eyebrows, the correction of both problems can be performed at the same time.
The brow lift surgery also allows the surgeon to smoothen the horizontal forehead wrinkles and decrease, to some degree, the activity of the muscles in the forehead.
Dr. Guerra will tell you if you are a candidate for an eyebrow lift before doing surgery in you upper eyelids.
This is a simple procedure that can be endoscopically and is normally done under IV sedation in the office. The recovery time is approximately 7 to 10 days.
