Otoplasty

Stop feeling like you have to hide your ears!

People with protruding ears are often bullied and feel embarrassed about the shape and size of their ears. In almost all of the cases, it is a hereditary issue which is passed from one generation to the next.

The causes of protruding ears are basically two:

  1. Lack of anti-helical fold (Figure 6A and 6B)
  2. Excessive ear cartilage growth in the back of the ear (conchal wall)

Some patients can have one or both problems and each one is treated with different techniques. The technique of Murstardè is used to re-create the anti-helix fold and the Furnas is used to decrease the size of the conchal wall. When you combine the techniques, the anatomy and the normal size and position of the ear is corrected in one procedure.

This procedure is normally performed after the patient turns 6 years old and is ambulatory, normally performed under IV sedation. The recovery time is normally one week.
